Do You Feel Like Your Child Is Missing Out?”

It can seem pretty defeating to always feel like you’re at a disadvantage. For some kids, this could be struggling to walk or with excessively crying. Others may be suffering from an illness or injury that’s preventing you from enjoying the simple joys of everyday life. We’ve encountered HUNDREDS of different uphill battles that our patients experience… Do you feel as though you’re lost with no answers or clear direction/plan?

Does That Sound Like You?

The truth is, often times the medical system leaves you with large gaps. Doctors are limited on time and resources to help you. Insurance regulates what your access to resources and dictates your future. With all the questions it always seems like there is a lack of clear answers and direction.

“My child gets therapy at school”

School-based therapy programs are great but oftentimes programs need to be related to the child’s school-based needs, not their needs in general. So oftentimes therapists are restricted on activities they would typically like to perform with a child because of the setting. It can be frustrating to see a need your child clearly has and to be restricted on what can be done for them within the school setting. And with limited county budgets and equipment, schools are left fighting for equipment and tools that are needed for therapy. This is why outpatient therapy can be a great pair with school-based therapy programs.

We’ve been there too…

I am Justin Gilligan, one of the owners of TheraFit Kids. And I have been there too. My daughters have both needed therapy and the challenge to find answers and get direction is real… That is why we decided to become a multi-specialty facility offering physical, occupational, and speech therapy, along with durable medical equipment suppliers.

Our goal was to become a valuable outpatient rehab center, offering state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained therapists all in one spot. This allows us to have a fully encompassed and well-rounded treatment plan that is focused on getting the most out of therapy.

This is why TheraFit Kids (TheraFit Rehab) in Westminster, Maryland, isn’t your typical Pediatric Therapy Clinic. We’re unique because we’re fully equipped with the three most important keys to therapeutic treatment and care for children.

Which are:

  • Adaptive Equipment
  • Professional, Certified Therapists
  • Activity-Based Programs

This probably has you wondering…

How it Works

Every child has specific needs, there is no one size fits all when it comes to therapy. So we start with an initial evaluation. I this first visit we listen to the parent’s goals as well as the child’s goals. Then we go through a series of special tests that help us to identify exactly what is going on. From there, we build a  unique treatment plan that includes their interests, goals, and your feedback.

Next, we carry out a treatment plan and keep re-evaluating our plan to see if we are getting the progress we desired. In this stage consistency and repetition are vital. Neuroplasticity, or the wiring of neurons in the brain, is built through repetition and takes time. So keeping it feeling fun and new are the true gifts of our therapists, making it a place kids LOVE to go!

This leads to our third step of maintaining. Once we help achieve the desired goal, we want to make sure we maintain it. Kids are constantly growing and spastic muscles can tighten up fast and we can lose functions that we once had. So in some cases, we keep children on a maintenance program so that we can keep an eye on them in case things begin to change.

What Happens if You Don’t Get Help?

It’s fairly common to feel like you can help your child on your own. For some, trying to manage their child’s health alone may work. However, the result of not getting help could lead to more issues and a loss of precious time to intervene early before things get too bad. Some of the biggest problems we have even seen with kids have been from not seeing them soon enough.

It’s not the parent’s fault, the system is to blame. Without proper guidance parents are left feeling as though “this is all my child can do” or “I guess my child will never be able to do that, the doctor would know”. We like to remind our parents of this…

“If your child is struggling, then you already know the result of not getting help… More STRUGGLING. Therefore, reaching out for help is ALWAYS a great first step.”

Without the proper treatment and support, they may struggle with things like:

UNNECESSARY SURGERIES

LOSS IN JOINT RANGE OF MOTION

PRESSURE SORES

LACK OF INDEPENDENCE

TIGHT MUSCLES

Instead, Imagine if…

Your child was able to walk and move MUCH easier than before. Their muscles were looser, they had better balance. Imagine them being much more independent, brushing their teeth and dressing by themselves. Imagine the joy and pride of learning these activities.

When you receive the proper support both physically and mentally from our experienced and caring therapists, life becomes much more enjoyable. You will gain knowledge and be empowered to take on new goals and help your child to achieve more.

WHAT ARE SOME WAYS WE HELP?

Improving walking or learning to walk

Increasing Mobility

Improving Balance

Gaining Precious Independence

Integrating Sensories

Improving Speech or Cognition
